Andrews Precision have recently taken delivery of a Schenck special purpose machine which will measure the static balance of an assembled payload.  The Centre of Gravity can be measured for payloads with weights up to 1000Kg,

The machine also has an oscillating table for the measurement of Moments of Inertia.  The capacity is up to 400kg.

FIAT 500 BALANCE

Fiat 500 vibration

I have recently rebuilt my Fiat 500 engine, in an attempt to resolve a serious engine vibration problem.  However when trying to get the crankshaft balanced, several companies offered their services but they all let me down, saying it could not be balanced.

I approached Andrews Precision Ltd, in Worcester, who advised me that the crankshaft was seriously out of balance but with effort they believed it could be corrected.  It arrived back very quickly, fully dynamically balanced,  and I was able to rebuild the engine, which now runs very sweetly and vibration free.  After a few local miles it successfully negotiated the trip from Newcastle to London, and hopefully many more miles in the future.

My thanks to Andrews Precision for resolving my Crankshaft balancing problem very quickly, where others had totally failed.

Congratulations To Trevor Wilkinson

Congratulations to Trevor Wilkinson

At the end of 2009, Trevor Wilkinson will celebrate 30 years as a Director of a Balancing Company – and it could have been longer!

Trevor was the founder of Wilkinson Dynamic Balancing back in 1968 and built up the company through his knowledge, experience and reputation in the market place.  Then in 1993, he sold the business, to move onto other projects.

Trevor became a well-known and respected Engineer in the dynamic balancing of crankshafts.  His knowledge had been put to good use in many areas of Motor-racing, Motor-cycle racing, Hill climbing, etc.  In particular he became well known for work on the NASCAR engines in the USA.

Experiences in these fields were expanded to many other areas of industry where problems existed with rotating shafts.  Whether it be Aerospace turbines or electrical alternators and motors, Trevor was able to show benefits in performance/efficiency, and importantly reliability and cost savings.

In 1993 he wanted to try different projects, much to the sadness of his many customers, many of which kept in touch.

After a number of years, and in part due to requests from old clients who valued his knowledge, he, with Martyn Wilkins, purchased a small machining company outside Bristol – Andrews Precision Limited.  In 2005, with a couple of second hand machines, Trevor started to do work for those clients who had nagged him to start up again.

Andrews Precision moved to their current premises at Unit 86g, Blackpole Trading Estate West, Worcester, WR3 8TJ, in 2007.  In the following 12 months, the business grew by over 100% in the year.  Now balancing all types of products, such as alternators, flywheels, electric motors, as well as a wide variety of crankshafts they have also developed a niche market in the machining of special valve guides,

Special Valve Guides

Special Valve Guides

A record year for Valve Guide Sales.

It all happened because an existing customer could not find anyone in the UK, to manufacture a set of special valve guides.  In order to get the Customer out of a hole, Andrews Precision took on the job really as an act of providing good Customer Service.

As they say from little acorns grow!  As 2009 has passed by the number of orders has risen, as word of mouth has spread, then orders have materialised from both within the UK and also Europe.  400 BMW guides shipped to Austria was probably one of the recent highlights.  Guides have also been made for Mini’s, Fords, Vauxhalls performance engines, as well as vintage cars such as Daimlers.

We now have many patterns on file, and are constantly adding to the library..
